in the mood for lego

of all things to buy…and be fascintaed with…i bought for me LEGO!!! and i’m actually very much excited about it! like a born again child. wahh, 26 and heading a unit and one more month to go, still want to play lego~ aha! but i really think Lego is a good destress when you have many entangled stuffs in your mind…lego makes you think one step at a time and finding solutions..like how you put one block after another…and eventually creating something, whether conscious or unconscious(ok, takdela nak justify sangat why i bought Lego..oh ya…here’s one very good reason: it can also be a learning tool!!)
and you know what i’ll end up doing…grouping them blocks according to colours or sizes or shapes. i just did.

let’s do lego together ok sometime 😛

art folly random

definitely a nice feeling to be awaken to a nice sunny day(despite the heat), looking out to the green park and breathe fresh air, and not have to go to work! haha!

some very random thoughts to fill up the space.

  • spent the first half of the day doing bits and pieces of what i’ve always wanted to do since started working at the mosque, and havent had the chance to. the room looks more…well like a girls room …
  • helped to clear the kitchen and ….
  • was thinking of doing more of the gifts deco but ended up…
  • reading The White Tiger (Aravind Adiga). speaking of which, i just realized i tend to enjoy Man Booker Prize-d novels…
  • and i still prefer Yuna to Zee Avi
  • 4 more weekends to go
  • and i’m actually doing the Gifts do-it-yourself way!! and i think it turned out pretty nice with some hot glue and laced ribbons here and there and you have a themed set of Gifts.
  • and then i remembered i have many other things to do work-related but i refuse to do anything…
  • because i’ll be working on the weekends. (right…welcome to working saturdays AND sundays, albeit half day) just like the ‘good’ old days — although i hope this will change come July

and throughout all the chaosness,

i had the opportunity to appreciate art although very much a newbie and knowing pretty much zilch of what’s in the scene…thanks to dear with the heart of gold~

there’s orchestra on Final Fantasy, and since our seat was on the second floor(or was it the third?), we got a good view of the screen where they show scenes from the many Final fantasy episodes and a bird’s eye view of the talented talented musicians.
(i think they should soon have one on Lotr + orchestra!)

first time ever watching the performance of young shaolin martial arts, although very much contemporary.

and tricky Seven Boards of Tricks. i mean seriously tricky. with triangle and square boards to make whatnots..although we got pretty sleepy since some of the songs were in chinese and we can’t for the heck of it understood what it all meant.

i know there are meanings behind every moves and dances but i couldn’t figure it out, just like the cullberg ballet..although there’s some sort of a storyline which i could follow but in all i can appreciate just how much talent and the energy and time put in to come up with a 100 minutes performance. all those passion they put in. pretty amazing. never had the chance to view performances before but it’s a ‘new breath of air’ to be able to catch and see what’s the hype is all about. have always wanted to experience them and you have given me that chance. thank you.

living nights

the past weekend has been a mix of blessings, beautiful experience and whatnots.
first of was the Iftar with Friends of Harmony centre on Friday which was a nice experience for me. truly. iftar with people of different races and religions, sharing experiences and whats memorable for me was the conversation circle we had after iftar with what i can proudly say, my own circle of friends made up of christians, bahais and buddhists.

only in this circle, we had a bigger group for guests from the Iftar joined us and it so happened that the topic for the night was on Prayer. and when every adherents of faith present that night said a prayer, it truly touched me. i realised every faith seeks one thing: to be embraced by God’s Love. seeks for His guidance and protection, seeks for His forgiveness and blessings. and i got to meet some very inspirational and knowledgeable people, sincere at hearts and minds, almost freed of the worldly wants.

and saturday was another memorable night. Cakap Pasal Remaja was in town for ramadan! with a skit performance by our talented youth leaders, whom i am fortunate to be acquainted with, people with aim and spirit, normal people with great hearts and minds. you know i was thinking the whole night : i’m looking at these very people who are and will be our future leaders. able to be role models for the young ones. and the drama was a good one, revolving around four friends who promised to be together.

however, when they grew up, things changed. (i don’t remember the characters’ names so i’ll be using the ‘actors’ names) ahmad model-turned-playboy, amin good boy turned bad, fairus leader-turned-samseng, and only one of them who stayed true to his words, he promised to be the one to help his friends in times of need, this was played by syakir.

so the story goes, with short intervals by ust fendi as the storyteller. syakir saw the changes in his friends and tried hard to help them realised their mistakes. [Al-Qur’an hudan linnaas]–> the key takeaway of the story.
i have to say you got to be there. the young ustaz-s can act i tell you!

it was just unfortunate i was on mc minallah, or i would have loved to stay on for the qiyam and get to know with the young ones, see what’s hip and happening for them~~share one or two experiences, totally miss school life! and i thought i was going to do a cinderSeri with a Birken’s Twist, for leaving the ‘palace’ at 12 am. haha, fat hope.

and last night was well spent… iftar with the girls only we missed shasha! we had mediterranean at Zac’s Place, having our dinner *under the stars* and the meals scrumptuous, service’s good enough and there will always be things to talk about! from daily life to upin and ipin, to MBMF, to children’s psychology! but hey we went back way before curfew time ok 😉 what’s with the anti-Huzah and looking for taxi all the way down masjid sultan, with a group of guys shrieking, and i mean shrieked at the sight of a rodent (YUCKSSSSSS!!) all of these memories in the span of 4 hours.

–and the weekend had been fulfilled with blessings and love–

and with that, i have upLOADS of pics to the various virtual channels which i own~

camping campers camped

the anticipated camp of the week had passed in its full glory. insya Allah. more than 400 young people joined the RYC camp spread around the island of temasek.

i got the opportunity to ‘visit’ three of the participating mosques, alistiqamah, annahdhah and alfalah. and i was thinking, why don’t they have these camps when i was younger???! or maybe they did, maybe it was just me being an ignorant teen student who thought being a mosque youth doesn’t sound exciting, or plain too ‘alim’ and i was so wrong. well, for one thing, i was a very shy person during my school years and gatherings with unknown people doesn’t appeal to me. IIU changed that part of me.

but anyway, back to the camps. i managed to drop by al-istiqamah, just in time for their community service, which was to distribute the signature bubur masjid to the residents of nearby blocks. joining them were some Girl Guides and NPCC mates from Serangoon Garden Secondary, which i think was a brilliant move. they also had support form the Serangoon RC. which made things easier because the RC had records of their neighbours who are low-incomed and in need.

and then drove to annahdhah, which was a small group but close nevertheless, with the edu manager’s amazing experiences and sharing sessions. i thought i would be in time to deliver one short workshop, but i was late.

and a short meet with alfalah’s youth for a Qur’an Workshop.. Lord, i do not think i was the right person to deliver them. i just hope they might learn something from that one and half hour sessions.

but i have to say, the best part of the whole camp was on sunday where all the participating young muslims gathered at Assyakirin Mosque. while i was waiting outside the hall (was late and didn’t want to disturb the momentum, with the dimmed lights) i could hear ustaz sofyan’s doas and renderings of a child towards parents, as a young muslim, and most important, as His Servant. it was heartbreaking. when this reflective session, i managed to join in, and saw that ALL the young ones were teary eyed and some were still sobbing hard. bless them. hopefully the impact will last and they went back home refreshed re-lived remorsed but ready to start a better life. insya Allah.

same goes for me.

distraught detached and could just feel how much the soul needs. but what’s stopping?!

RYC Launch

it’s been a week since ryc launch last week at Sultan Mosque, and for someone who’s been in the know on ryc, it definitely looks exciting! still, it has been a whirlwind of trying to ‘put voice’ into it through online. troopers!! are you guys doing your job??!

fortunately there’s Facebook and believe, it does wonders! create a group, invite some friends and there you have it, 300 and growing number of members. Thank yous to the support given. at least, at facebook, i know people know.

this weekend, some mosques are having a Youth Camp, serentak, and it’s almost like the weekend nights are going to be alive with young people at mosques, reading the Qur’an and reciting zikir. oh my Lord, please bless these young people, for their noble efforts to bring meaning to their Ramadan.

and there are still more activities during this Ramadan. For those into multimedia and photography, visit these links;

there’s still time to join the photography and video competitions!

and there’s also going to be Night of Power on the 20th September.

wahh, serious full schedule for this month!
insya Allah.

come on young people, join in the challenge!

saturday rush

waah, the saturday which was full of happiness and excitement and gatherings of great people.

first of in the morning, rushed to SIES TEACHERS DAY, in appreciation to the asatizahs of mosque madrasahs. around 400 teachers from 27 mosques came to gather at the Orchid Country Club. I was helping with the registration and met some familiar faces and friends….and some ehem ehem ustazs (sempat….;)). two of my students were the ushers, good job guys! amidst the happiness, i have to say, i was a bit disappointed that there’s only me represneting an-nahdhah mosque, the other asatizahs were not able to attend, out of circumstances or out of plain temperament. wallahu a’lam.

with me busy taking pictures, i forgot to take pictures of myself! haha.

right after registration closed, i had to rush to Sentuhan Ramadan -RYC launch at Sultan Mosque! here again, met some friends and aili was there, fana and fiza was there! so i didn’t feel left out..somehow..

i honestly felt i was glad to be in this circle. because i didn’t start out having an eagerness to mix with mosque people, you know what i mean? i dreamt i would be among the academics in some uni, like pursuing a masters degree in some university, or would be among colleagues of various races if i were to work in other government sectors or organizations. but i find myself here and doing what i’m doing now. and i never regret it.
it doesn’t pay much and tonnes of work, but being in these gatherings, and meeting friends and accomplices, it’s a nice feeling la! there’s always a hikmah.

i’ve uploaded many pics at other places, and at the moment, i don’t really have much patience to upload pics here, hehe. but please, do visit alivesg.multiply or invokesg.multiply to peek at some pics, ok!

but some pics i must post…just because i think they look nice~~

and also…this pic..:)

didicazli, whoever he is, not that i’m much of a fan but he sings good.

most importantly, RAMADHAN MUBARAK.
i’m taking this as a chance to turn a new leaf. to be a better person. and only He Knows how much i wanted this.

busy weekend-er

With the school term about to recommence next week, looks like our youths are catching up with what’s left of the week to fill up their time with energizing and dynamic activities this weekend.

There’s Cakap Pasal Remaja (CPR) around the corner at Al-Iman mosque with Z.O.U.Q. as its topic this time. Looking from the success of its prior ‘episodes’ and indefinite support from Muslim youths, we’re expecting more of those talented performances and engaging discussion with the panelists.

What’s Z.O.U.Q is all about?? Hmm..it’s about time you come down and see for yourself. Surely you don’t want to miss the hype.

And Ar-Rabitah’s youth, Nurabitah, is busy for its Night Cycling event, all through Friday night~ Night adventure has always been a fave with our youngsters. Remember those night Hijrah walks? This cycling adventure will wise up the youths with the battles of Badr and Uhud. With nice parks as destination and great company…cycling has never been more fun~ May everything goes well and safe journey to the youths participating!

Now, An-Nahdhah Youth has its own night adventure, though more intellectually challenging…D’Talk 08. Organized by Nur Ikhwan and Nanyang Polytechnic Muslim Society, the camp aims to tackle questions and issues which, non-Muslims might ask and at the same time, have a deeper reflection to ownselves as Muslims. Can we be Islam’s spokespersons? How do we answer questions about Islam with hikmah and wisdom? How can we be a better Da’i? Masya Allah, here are the people who stand at the sideline and spread the message of Islam. Insya Allah..

And somewhere all over Singapore, some of our Muslim youths are practising hard and preparing for MySpex 08! Amidst Euro 2008, we do have time for our own sports event of the year! Look out for more on MySpex!
